Project Butterfly New Orleans is an African-centered rites of passage program that provides mentoring and culturally rooted programming to prepare girls of African descent for their transition from adolescence to adulthood. They serve girls ages 13-18 by hosting weekly chrysalis circles. During these workshops, girls engage in activities on self-esteem and identity, physical and mental wellness, healthy relationships, and more! Project Butterfly helps girls to rediscover the power within and prepare them to transform their lives and lead their communities.
“Project Butterfly New Orleans has helped me grow and develop into a strong-minded, open-hearted, and confident young lady. I am grateful for the nurturing I received because without their guidance, I don’t know what path I would be on.”
J’Lyn (17)
“Project Butterfly is a great space for young Black girls to express their feelings about being a Black woman in society. It has made me realize that there are many girls that look and act like me with similar experiences.”
Lana (16)
“I have gained knowledge about issues that affect Black girls and women. I’ve had opportunities to speak about issues and present these issues to politicians. I have the ability to be a voice for Black girls and women.”
