“Jeanne d’Arc”

by Paula Ferrebus (16),
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts

“Joan of Arc was only 13 when she started having divine visions that instructed her to take up her sword and deliver Orléans from the barbaric Saxons. In 1429, she set out to free Orléans from the English in the name of the king. She became a military leader and known as the savior of France, but the Catholic Church grew suspicious, for how could a woman be led by God in such a way? Unless her sword was being guided by a different power and this young girl was a witch who spoke the Lord’s name in blasphemy. She was burned at the stake for her sins and her service—stripped of her gleaming armor and with her eyes to the skies.”

“Let’s Go to the Garden”

by Katie McDowell (18),
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts

“These photos feature the beauty of feminine expression. My model, Hazel, designs her own dresses and enjoys nature, something I really wanted to explore when shooting this series. I feel as though all women have their own unique perspective when it comes to what femininity means to them. Hazel’s personality and self-expression are a great example of this.”

“We were assigned to take photos of a classmate in the middle of doing something for my photography class at NOCCA. This stop action shot is of my classmate in the middle of doing a cartwheel.”

by Elina Doddamani (16),
The Willow School

“These images are from a senior session I photographed. The model, Hannah, is a gorgeous young woman from NOCCA. I was able to capture this look by the NOCCA murals. My intent behind senior picture sessions is to capture the model’s personality and empower young women through photography!”

We are also always on the lookout for great shots for the cover. To submit a cover shot, keep in mind that the image needs to be vertically oriented and provide space for our logo at the top!
