Two lucky local girls have their moods transformed into unique nail polish designs by celeb nail artist Katherine St. Paul Hill.
It’s FUN translating our PERSONALITY and MOODS into our own distinct look using clothes, hairstyles and makeup. Nails, too, can showcase who we are in interesting ways. Nail artist to the stars KATHERINE met with TALIA, 14, from Uptown and LEAH, 12, from Violet in St. Bernard Parish to learn more about who they are and what’s on their mind, and translate it into one of her famed nail designs.
TALIA
Talia goes to Ben Franklin High School and was stressed the day she met with Katherine about a big geography project and upcoming tests. She wanted a “calming” nail design.
Katherine chose Talia’s favorite colors, blue and white, as the basis for her design. The color blocks are cool and chic, and the lines represent Talia’s favorite hobby, aerial arts. Talia loves twisting, twirling and swinging in the air on silks at Crescent City Aerial Arts.
When working with multiple layers of polish colors,be sure to let each layer dry before applying the next!
LEAH
Leah likes hanging out with all kinds of students at her school, N.P. Trist Middle School, but she wishes her peers would be more inclusive. “The black kids hang out with black kids, and all the white kids pretty much hang out with white kids,” she said. Leah hopes others will stop self-segregating based on the color of their skin and appreciate the diversity of their school like she does.
Katherine chose a colorful theme to symbolize diversity on Leah’s nails, with each nail boasting a different rich jewel tone. A sparkly gold tip unifies the look.
Painting the tip in the same color brings harmony to even the craziest nail designs.
KATHERINE ST. PAUL HILL’S design fame began as a cake designer on Food Network’s Ace of Cakes, and later turned into work as a nail artist.
