ABOUT NOVAC:
Since 1972, NOVAC has been offering video production classes to New Orleanians and empowering diverse communities to use film as an educational and social action tool. They’ve got a big birthday coming up: 50 years in 2022!
NOVAC offers free youth programming, including their Born Digital Youth Program, which teaches digital media skills so young people will be more qualified for high-paying job opportunities in film and digital media. NOVAC also offers after-school courses in design, photography, and video production for middle and high schoolers to learn Adobe Photoshop and other video editing software.
“At NOVAC, I learned so much, not only from the super fantastic staff, but also my peers. It’s a place where I was encouraged and felt comfortable expressing my thoughts and creativity. If you have the opportunity to participate in NOVAC, you will have a fun learning experience.” — Carin Marcelle (12), former summer workshop participant
“I was first introduced to NOVAC through their Born Digital program as a high school senior. Last summer, I was an intern and a production assistant in the costumes department for a new Netflix feature called Where the Crawdads Sing. I was also a production assistant for the series Cherish the Day. I’m now a senior at Spelman College and excited to work in film after graduation. NOVAC gives storytellers a platform to grow as artists, leaving everyone empowered.” — Paris Vincent (21), former Born Digital participant
