The Female Gaze
by Lily Kaloustian (17),
Lusher Charter School
“Eyes are considered the windows to the soul, so gazes are luring. The portrait is supposed to be colorful and enticing when you see it from far away.”
Every Woman

“While each piece has a different meaning and theme, all of my work is geared towards celebrating women. I try to include as much diversity as I can, representing women of different races, sizes, identities, and religions.”

Ms. Hepburn
by Maren Antee (17),
Lusher Charter School
“Audrey Hepburn is my role model. Here, I did a portrait of her in Hershey’s chocolate sauce. Audrey Hepburn loved chocolate. Chocolate has a sort of elegance but also a childlike sense that I find interesting. I have always admired Audrey Hepburn. Her sense of style and beauty is amazing. However, it goes deeper than that. I wish to give my time to helping those in need like she did when she helped feed starving children. I wish to be as humble as she was, even when she was in the eye of Hollywood. I wish to be more optimistic and value hard work as much as she did. I wish to always speak about others in a positive manner and to avoid being a gossip. I wish to forgive as easily and help those who have done wrong. I wish to preach education to the world and help those who don’t have this privilege. I wish to value my family and grow to have stronger, lifelong relationships. Lastly, I wish to be proud of myself and my beauty. I won’t let society’s definition of beauty change the way I present myself. I will be myself. Be beautiful.”
