Looking Beyond
by Laila James (17),
Cabrini High School
“My art attempts to reflect a person’s personality upon first viewing. We only ever see someone’s skin tone or how they dress and assume we know something about them, but those characteristics are a small glimpse of an array of colors. Each color has a unique shade, tones, and hues which create a unique individual.”
Feeding the Heart
by Eliza Hinrichs (16),
St. Thomas More Catholic High School
“From a young age, I have loved riding horses and being around them in general. I’ve been riding horses for around 12 years and participate in competitions. While I love the sport, I fear that I won’t be able to do it forever. My solution to this is art. Painting allows me to continue my connection to the equine world even when I am unable to physically participate. This piece shows the animal in a way that pushes the viewer to appreciate the animal just as much as I do.”

Sweet Home
by Alexa Rodriguez (16),
Ursuline Academy
“This piece is just a small way of symbolizing the beauty of being at home with yourself and the people around you. No matter how stressful and hard things get, you can always rely on the sweet feeling of being at home.”
Sustainability
by Kylie Fisher (17),
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts
“I created the piece (oil painting and colored pencil) to bring awareness to the meaning of the word and show our need to protect our world because it is connected to us.”
Confined Within the Construct
by Kylie Fisher (17),

“This acrylic painting is about feeling trapped within societal standards, inside the bland, gray box.”
Eating Habits
by Kylie Fisher (17),
New Orleans Center for Creative Arts
“This oil painting is about different feelings people have in relation to food and eating, specifically eating disorders.”
