Where I’m From
By MIRACLE NIXON
I am from divine gifts
From never ending dreams and visions
From supernatural phenomena.
I am from mountains and oceans
Flowing ever so freely.
I am from the rainstorms,
Lightning and thunder, always pounding on the soft, innocent sky.
I am from sleek and slippery roads, that with one wrong step, everything
Comes crashing down.
I’m from the rainbow
That comes after the storm to remind me that
Everything will be okay in the end.
I’m from promises that have come to pass
Faith and hope.
Prayers to the God above for some kind of miracle.
I’m from tales that have been passed down
Through generations and generations to come.
I’m from the Salt of the Earth; a City on a Hill
Like my momma once told me.
Where I’m from may sound hard or difficult or
In a way, peculiar.
I’m from those stories that have a difficult beginning
But a beautiful, sweet-sounding ending.
