There’s only one thing that’s better than friendship…sisterhood!
Girls building each other up and having each other’s backs is everything. We asked a group of girls to share their thoughts and advice.
What does sisterhood mean to you?
Jaylin:
It’s a special bond, a connection with people that have your back and care for you. It means having people you can always depend on and trust.
Carley:
Sisterhood is girls being comfortable with each other in a unique way. Girls who form a sisterhood are willing to work things out together.
A’mari:
It’s when girls help each other out. In friendship you have problems; in sisterhood you help with problems.
Kiana:
Sisterhood is supporting another girl to succeed and showing that you care.
Tacara:
You are able to get close to and communicate with people you don’t know. It’s an amazing bond.
Jayla:
Sisterhood is when you have a strong connection with different girls. To me, sisterhood is when you can share anything and not be embarrassed. No matter how strong a friendship is, sisterhood is way stronger.
Carley:
Sisterhood is bigger and better than friendship because it’s about believing in my ‘sisters,’ encouraging them, and helping them through difficult times. You can count on a ‘sister’ in a way you can’t count on a friend. Your ‘sisters’ are always there.
Jaylin:
Friendship can break easily because the bond isn’t that strong. With sisterhood there’s a deeper connection.
Why is sisterhood so important?
Carley:
Life is hard and with ‘sisters’ you can get through anything. I know my ‘sisters’ will understand how I’m feeling and support me in whatever I’m struggling with.
Kiana:
You can discuss your problems without them spilling your secrets because sisterhood means trust.
Jaylin:
Because in life you always need a person to depend on and have your back. Sisterhood guarantees that. It allows you to live an easier life.
A’mari:
It’s important because you have someone to count on when you need help.
Any tips for being a ‘sister’ to others and building sisterhood?
Jayla:
You have to forgive, be thoughtful, and love each other. Always check on each other!
Carley:
You have to find girls who really get who you are as a person.
Jaylin:
You can build sisterhood by being there for your ‘sisters’ and giving advice.
A’mari:
Be there when another girl needs you!
Kiana:
You have to build trust and show that you are willing to support others and not always have your way.
Carley:
When you are a ‘sister,’ you are nice, kind, loving, and caring. You believe in your ‘sisters’ no matter what.
Tacara:
Stick together. It’s important to communicate, believe in one another, and not give up on each other.
